My Story
I am a multi-disciplinary artist, musician, writer and have a background as an arts educator, working with community organisations, NGO's, art galleries, The Sydney Opera House and remote indigenous communities in central Australia and East Arnhem Land.
In 2020 at the beginning of Covid my mother Rae was diagnosed with advanced Motor Neurone Disease. We took her home, where I cared for her to her death. With my mother's permission, I photo documented and wrote about these last months, the response from people was overwhelming. This profound experience inspired me to study to become a Death Doula (a support person for the dying and their families). However, it was in 2022 when I offered to paint the coffin of a former young student's mum and beloved community member, that the idea of Creative Death Care came into being.
My hope is that this service will provide people and families with new creative pathways that support the dying, their families, friends and the ways we approach and talk about death.
